FACADE GRANTS

      We create a vibrant and welcoming Downtown that celebrates our historic charm, supports local businesses, and connects our community.

      In support of its mission, the purpose of the DDA Facade Grant Program is to help businesses invest in exterior improvements that make St. Marys more beautiful, inviting, and vibrant. 
- 
      
        
      
      The program is funded by local investments, community-supported events, and donations. This collaborative effort allows the community to continually improve the downtown area while partnering with local entrepreneurs. 
- 
      
        
      
      - Visible Facades: Improvements must be made to business facades easily visible to the public, such as those facing streets, parking areas, or recreational spaces. - Priority is given to projects that enhance pedestrian activity and downtown storefront use. 
 
- Location: Buildings must be within the DDA Boundaries (contact the Mainstreet Office for boundary details). 
- Exterior Improvements: Projects must improve the exterior of a building. 
- Compliance: All projects must comply with zoning, building codes, and City of St. Marys design standards (Mainstreet Office assistance available). 
- Applicant Standing: Applicants must not be delinquent on local taxes, fees, or fines. 
- Tenant Applications: If the applicant is a tenant, at least 75% of the lease must remain, and the building owner must sign the application. 
- Financial Limits: - DDA may contribute up to 50% of project costs. 
- Maximum contribution is $3,000. 
 
- Timing Limits: - Projects must be completed within six months of approval. 
- Supporting documents must be submitted within 30 days of application. 
- One approved grant per calendar year.

      - Exterior painting (in compliance with design standards) 
- Permanent exterior lighting 
- Structural stabilization or exterior wall improvements 
- Hardscapes, permanent planters, and benches 
- “Facelift” projects (pressure washing, landscaping, minor exterior enhancements) 
- Permanent sign hardware 
- Replacement of exterior windows and doors 
- Permanent canopies and awnings

      Grants will not cover projects that are not permanently affixed to the building’s exterior or not visible from public areas. Examples include: - Furniture 
- Security systems 
 
- 
      
        
      
      - Complete an application (available at the St. Marys Main Street Office or online). 
- Meet with the Main Street Manager or a DDA Board Member to review the project. - They may either endorse the application or suggest adjustments. 
 
- Once endorsed, the application will be presented at the next DDA Board Meeting for approval. 
- If approved, complete the project and notify the Main Street Office. 
- Upon completion, you must submit before and after pictures and then the grant check will be issued and disbursed.

      1. Projects are reviewed on a first-come, first served basis. Funding levels for the project vary by year. Once funding is exhausted, additional applicants must wait until the next fiscal year. 2. The grant request is subject to denial if all applicable procedures are not followed. (Let us help you!) 3.
